your fun facts for today

While doing a bit of research for my next inspiration board, I learned some fun facts about Monopoly that I thought I would share:
  • Since the introduction of the game in 1935, approximately 750 million people have played it.
  • The Guinness Book of World Records states that a set worth $2,000,000 and made of 23-carat gold, with rubies and sapphires atop the chimneys of the houses and hotels, is the most expensive Monopoly set ever produced
  • The earliest version of Monopoly was created in 1904 by a Quaker woman named Lizzie J. Phillips, who intended the game to explain the single tax theory of Henry George.
  • In 1941 the British Secret Service had a special edition of Monopoly created for WWII prisoners of war held by the Nazis. Hidden inside these games were maps, compasses, real money, and other objects useful for escaping. They were distributed to prisoners by secret service created fake charity groups.

Pretty interesting, right? Come back later this morning for the Monopoly Inspiration board!
