a room fit for uncle pennybags

The polls have closed and the winner was a Monopoly-themed, grown-ups bedroom. I did my best! I'm actually really pleased with how it turned out. I think it would be a cute, manly bedroom for a Monopoly-obsessed bachelor ... without being too cartoony or literal with the theme.

I took the basic elements of the game and tried to work them into a comfortable, functional bedroom that at least matches! Here are some elements from the game that I chose to interpret:

1930's: Since the game was first produced in the mid-1930's, when art deco was all the rage, I decided to select art deco-style furniture to give it a 1930's feel.

Atlantic City: You can't think of Monopoly without thinking of Atlantic City, so I used one of my favorite things, vintage posters, to bring that idea into the room.

The Playing Pieces: I am imagining floating shelves above the bed, holding little life-like versions of the famous pawns from the game. For this board I included the boat and the scottie dog, but you could have a lot of fun throwing in fun interpretations of the race car, cannon and wheelbarrow!

Reading Railroad: I just included a little model train, but you could really go crazy with the train theme if you wanted to.

Jail: to avoid getting too literal with bold prisoner stripes or handcuffs in the room, I chose a black and white "prisoner stripes" (or pinstripes) wallpaper:)

Community Chest: what better way to communicate this idea than a beautiful old steamer trunk?

Top Hat: One of the first images that comes to mind when I think of Monopoly is Uncle Pennybag's (I can't say that without laughing) silly top hat. Hopefully you can find a cheaper version than this one, though!

  1. What a cool room this turned out to be! I was wondering how you would combine the two (adult bedroom and Monopoly) but you pulled it off with style, Baby! Nice job!
