close as the pages in a book
I'll be honest. I am extremely proud of myself today. I take pictures of nearly every project I do, and they rarely, if ever, look as good as the picture I am trying to copy ... whether it be a recipe, a piece of furniture, or a craft project. I started on this little project with low expectations, and I was very pleasantly surprised.
I bought some horrible book called Meri Strikes Back from the 99 cent store, and believe me when I say I overpaid. Normally I would feel badly about ripping a book to shreds, but this book (what little I read) is awful. In fact, it wasn't until I got home and began tearing out the pages that I started noticing that the book contains an obscene number of curse words. I feel like I need to hang a PG13 sign by my wreath. I keep getting images in my head of some guest coming over and wandering up to my sweet little wreath for a closer look only to be startled by me yelling "DON'T READ IT".
You can get the step-by-step directions for making your own "book pages wreath" by clicking here. I didn't sit down and do it all at once, but I'd say it probably took about 2 hours and about 8 dollars to put together. It was worth every minute and every penny, though. I think it looks just like something from Anthropologie. I'm no Claire Smith, so these photographs really don't do it justice. If you click on the link to read the instructions and look at what hers looks like you'd probably get a better idea. Mine looks just like hers, I promise!
Would it be bad to leave it out all year round? I don't think I can bring myself to pack it away after Christmas!

I'm glad it worked out for you! I want one now, but I don't have the patience you do. ;)
ReplyDeleteAlso, I don't think it's really a Christmas-type thing. It may just be me, but I think you could use it all year round. :)
After seeing this project, I tried it myself. It turned out okay, but not as good as yours! I was still proud of it though. Thanks for the idea!
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited you were inspired to try it! I'd love to see pictures if you have any! A few days ago I actually went out and bought another copy of that terrible book and touched up my wreath a little. It had a lot of bare spots that I was too tired to fix the first time, and filling it up a bit more made a big difference.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you could try that if yours needs some sprucing up:)
AHH! im going to complete this, for my weekend project and do it!
ReplyDeletesoo adorable, thanks for the inspiration<3
I just finished mine yesterday and i love it! it was worth all the time put into it. THank you for the GREAT idea.
ReplyDeleteI love your wreath! And I'm going to attempt to make one, but with newspapers :) They're free, see. But I also love your bottles... Did you buy them full or find them empty? I know that's not what your post is about, but I had to comment. ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks!
