A few days ago I snapped this shot of all my houseplants out getting some sunshine. I've always been cursed with a terrible black thumb ... within weeks, if not days, I'd kill everything that came through the front door. I'm proud to say that after about two years of practice, I've finally overcome it (knock on wood!)
My sweet husband has taken note of my interest in gardening, and this morning woke me up with a Happy Anniversary card, and these two gorgeous potted plants, in lieu of the traditional bouquet. I couldn't have been more charmed:)
Then the mail came, and in it was an adorable little stuffed bird from the Martha Stewart pet collection - a get-well-soon gift to Jemima from her Aunt Jillian. And my dear friend Jill sent us this lovely anniversary card ... so thoughtful:)
I am not the best at picking out good greeting cards, so I often end up making my own. That is how this little project, my "card" of sorts to my husband, came about. Our song is The Very Thought of You by Billie Holiday. If you don't know it, you can click here and have a listen. We picked that song out years ago, when we first started dating. We danced to it on our wedding night, and we pinky promised we'd dance to it on every anniversary that followed, till death do us part:)
I cut out 1.5 inch squares of paper, jotted down the chorus of the song, and pinned them on to a square of cork board with map pins. Wish I had time to take better pictures of it, because these don't quite do it justice, but I have an anniversary dinner to get ready for;)
Also, as most of you already know, there was a small chance that Jemima might not be able to walk again. We were up for the challenge of life with a wheel-chaired-doggy by our side, but it was far from what we wanted. Today Jemima not only walked, but practically jogged over to play with her new bird toy:) Please excuse my annoying, baby-talk voice in the background. I was just very excited!
I'm feeling extremely blessed today. I have such an amazing, caring family, such wonderful, supportive friends, a spunky little dog who isn't going to let a silly thing like major surgery get her down, and a husband who has made my years with him the happiest years of my life. I know I didn't do anything to deserve all this love, so I just have to say thank you, and I love you all very much.
PS I told my husband not to read my blog today, so he won't read about the little "card" I made him and ruin the surprise. So if you're wondering why there's no "I love you, honey and happy anniversary!!!" note to my husband in this blog post, that's why. Don't worry, I'll tell him in person;)
I have been following Jemima's story and I'm so happy she walked today!!! As a pet mama myself I can only imagine how happy you must be :) Happy Anniversary!
