five fixes for under $5

Today I thought I'd do a little post about a few ways you can spruce up your place for less than 5 dollars! If you're on a decorating budget (and most of us are), you may want to splurge on some bigger items and save on the small ones. Here's what I do to get some extra bang for my buck:)

1. Paint: There are few inventions that I am quite so fond of as spray paint. It's just awesome.

2. Fabric: You can easily find cute fabrics for around 5 dollars a yard. Recovering small chair seats like barstools, benches or dining chairs is simple, and can totally transform a room.

3. Houseplants & Flowers: Bringing plants and flowers into your home helps purify the air and brings life to a room. Home Depot has tons of options for under $5, and they have a 1 year guarantee!

4. Art: This may be the cheapest option of all, because there's so much you can do for free! Vintage Printables is a fabulous website that I've blogged about several times. You can also go to places like Borders, and check out their selection of books on sale. They usually have giant coffee table books of photography for around $5 ... a low enough price tag that you won't feel guilty ripping out the pages and sticking them in frames!

5. Display: Some of my favorite things in our home are things I've always had, but started displaying in a fresh way.

one of the most colorful, fun parts of the guest bedroom is the magazine collection, and those were just lying around the house already!

I didn't have to buy anything to fill up those homemade shelves. Just rounding up some of my coral, vintage books, bowls and National Geo magazines from the 50's that I'd collected made the shelves look like everything had been planned in advance.

And just for fun, here are a few bonus ideas that didn't make the top 5 list: candles, bottles, chalkboard paint and toys from your childhood. I'm currently working on a super-cute way to display my stuffed animal bunny rabbit that I've had for about 20 years, Clover.
