a table for six, please

So, I hate to complain ... but this was definitely a project that had me screaming "NEVER AGAIN!!!!!" Had the set not already been spoken for, I think I might have said forget it. It took an extreme amount of sanding. As you can see from the picture below it had a fairly thick coat of an awful veneer on it. It was that 80's splatter-paint look. I don't know what it's called. Anyway .. lots of sanding, then priming, followed by about 3 coats of paint per chair, and these are HUGE chairs. Sanding/painting/priming the 6x4 table was a breeze compared to those chairs!

But enough complaining! They've found a happy home and I'm very excited for the couple to come pick them up, because it's totally taking over our already-tiny dining area!

Here's a peek of the lovely oak under that awful splatter paint mess. If we were keeping the set for ourselves instead of selling it I would have stripped the set down and stained it very dark brown instead of painting it.

There were 6 chairs, and two of them (for the heads of the table) had arm rests. Jemima is sitting in one of the arm rest chairs.

Here's the set about a week later. The chairs are upholstered in a sturdy, very light, sandy-colored denim.

The leg pieces are connected by a very pretty, yoke-looking thing.

Even the table legs got some distressing action.

Unfortunately I don't have a before of the table, but here's one more before & after of the chairs:

  2. The picture of J Bones is precious and this table is amazing. It looks so light and airy in your dining room especially with the sweet pink flowers, the owners are very lucky :)
