pretty in green

This is my new favorite thing: my vintage green vanity case!

I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to put on anything that came out of the inside of this case. It was pretty gross. It was lined with a plastic-ish quilted material that was stained, ripped and smelly.

I ripped out the insides, and cleaned it up a bit. I polished the outside with a little olive oil and vinegar (a recipe I found on the internet), and broke out an old tooth brush to scrub up the metal parts.

If you try this yourself, don't forget to save the lining to use as a measurement for tracing out your new pieces. It will save you a lot of time.

This quilted material was a bit of a splurge at $25 a yard, but it was so worth it. It's totally luxurious and beautifully detailed. I lined the fabric with silk ribbon, and added a new feature to the case: silk ribbons to tie down your belongings. So glam!

Isn't the detail pretty?

Here it is all packed up for a weekend getaway. Amazing how much it can hold!

And something that is never far from my side, my laptop, fits perfectly too! I think I've found my new carry-on bag!

  2. Aw thanks so much! I got it at the Rose Bowl Flea Market, but I've seen them at other flea markets and even on Craigslist. Good luck with your search:)
