service table how-to

Here's what we started with:
  • ugly cart on wheels
  • a metal/wicker tray
  • paint (a mix of my own colors)
  • a wood slab (leftover from a previous project)
  • sandpaper
  • tools for attaching the wood to the cart (this isn't my area of expertise)

We sanded and sanded and sanded some more. I hate sanding.

I got tired of tasting grit, so I threw on this mask.

Here it is all sanded down. Not too cute!

We needed these slabs so that we could slide a tray in and out underneath the cart.

Attaching the wood slabs to the cart. Now you just have to touch up the paint!

For the tray, I painted it the same shade of blue, and lined it with a contact paper for accidental spills. I couldn't find any cute contact paper, but I'm still looking because I'd like something snappier than this.

And that's how we went from this:

to this!

  2. Was that tray real wood? It looked fake to me.
