Hi everyone, hope all of you had a fabulous weekend! Ours was really fun. On Saturday night we went with some friends on a "haunted trail", you know, one of those things where you walk through dark buildings in the woods and the actors jump out and scare you. I was absolutely petrified. I am so jumpy to begin with, and I think the kids that work at those things can just tell I'm an easy scare because they always seem to pick on me more than everyone else. My husband kept telling me "If you wouldn't act so terrified of them, they'd pick on someone else", but I couldn't help it! I spent the entire time with my face buried in his sleeve.

On Sunday morning we went to La Jolla to volunteer for the Challenged Athlete Triathlon.
Oh my gosh, what an amazing event. I was so moved by all the inspirational stories I kept hearing about the people participating, I think I cried the whole way home.
Then we were off to a pretty hilarious event with Jemima. The Howl-o-Ween carnival! She decided to go as Holly Golightly, and I even made her a construction paper cigarette and cigarette holder to complete the black evening gown/over-sized jewels ensemble.
Hard to tell which one is Jemima and which one is Audrey, right?
They had the most adorable games ever, like "Bobbing for Wieners".
Jemima found a carrot in the wiener barrel, and set it aside for later. Maybe she wanted me to have it;) There was a costume parade where the dogs got to compete for about 20 different prizes, but there were about 75 dogs competing, and ... let's just say Jemima's costume didn't quite measure up to what some of the other dog's moms and dads had pulled together. For example:
Great Danes as Fred and Wilma ... this one was my favorite!
The Headless Horseman (or dogman?) and Ichabod Crane
A Pirate Ship O' Pomeranians
Now I know how all you mothers who can't sew feel on Halloween when your friend's children are parading around the neighborhood in enormous, elaborate homemade costumes and you've just slapped some rain boots on your child, handed him a water hose and told him to call himself a fireman. Jemima's costume paled in comparison and didn't win a thing, but she didn't walk away empty-pawed. In the spirit of "every kid that plays t-ball gets a trophy", they sent us home with a brand new Halloween-themed tennis ball.
Which made the whole thing worth it as far as she's concerned. And I'm sure if they'd had an award for "Most Glamorous", she would have been a shoe-in.
How fun! Jemima looked very stylish in her LBD. I think we might have to head out to our local doggie Halloween day. I'm even thinking about trying to make Emmett a Gameboy costume. We'll see if I actually have enough skill to do it.
ReplyDeleteThat is the cutest dog-costume idea I've ever seen! I can't believe you didn't win - it's way more original than the Flintstones, come on! :) Anyway, Jemima is the clear winner to me. What a cute event and a great blog post!
ReplyDeleteHer costume was unique! I love the pearls. Baxter would love those games.
ReplyDeleteDaisies - A Gameboy costume would be adorable! If you do it, please post pictures!
ReplyDeletePoly - Thank you very much, I'll tell Jemima that her friend Polyvorina thinks she should have won! She'll be relieved that someone agrees with her;)
Mr. + Mrs. B - The pearls are my favorite part, too! Baxter could throw on some swim trunks with his Doggles and go as a surfer;)
Your post title reminds me of a photo I just put on my Facebook page.. it's a dog in a Tiffany's box costume... so adorable... I'll see if I can email it to you. Your dog is a sweetie. xo
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad I'm not the only scaredy-cat! I get terrified at haunted houses!
ReplyDeleteI think her costume is so adorable! And she is such a little model! Look at her posing in the picture with her tennis ball :) precious
ReplyDeleteDebby - Please email it to me, I'd LOVE to see!
ReplyDeleteMandee - At least there's two of us, haha!
Kelli Anne - Aww, thank you so much! I'll tell her you said so;)
