be our guest!

We're finally getting around to working on the room that had, up until this weekend, been a total disaster area. This picture you see here is actually AFTER we had put away a bunch of junk that had been piling up. I'm a very tidy person, so this room has been driving me nuts.

It's about 3/4 of the way done now, and I'm kinda thinking I want to move in and abandon the master bedroom! The master connects directly to the bathroom, and all our clothes are in there, so realistically the switch is never going to happen ... but the guest bedroom is definitely the superior room. It's much bigger, has two closets, AND it has the best view!

Here's our game plan:

  • Build and upholster a custom, over-sized headboard
  • Buy a full mattress and box spring set (to replace the queen that is on there in the picture)
  • Buy something that can serve as a cool nightstand (preferably something vintage or retro)
  • Make-over the silver and black table lamp
  • Hang shelves and fill with bottle and sea creature collection
  • Frame and hang black and white photographs

I'm proud to say that we've done everything on our list except pick up the mattress and box spring (we're picking them up tonight!) and figure out a cool way to display our black and white pictures. Check back all week, because I'll be posting our progress in pieces:) You won't want to miss our enormous headboard!

Here's a little sneak preview! I was beside myself with excitement when I discovered this piece of furniture. It was out by the road waiting to be picked up by the garbage man. Yes, yes ... I'm like one of those people from Hoarders that picks up trash off the side of the road. But in my defense I think I sell more stuff on Craigslist than I acquire! I am in love with this piece. I'm not even going to paint it, I don't think. It's solid wood, has adorable little mid-century chic legs, and all kinds of weird nooks and crannies inside. I think it must be from an era when everyone had giant radios, record players and TVs, because it has all sorts of strange cutouts instead of shelves. It's very cool, and it's PERFECT for an over-sized nightstand.

Pssst ... if you look closely, you can see a peek of the headboard;)
