I was thinking the other day, that while you've seen this angle of our bedroom a few times...
You've never really seen this angle....
That lamp you see over there is this thrifty find. It's cute, but would clash horribly with our color scheme. I knew I wouldn't be able to paint it and have it look like glass, so I really slopped the paint on there in several layers, creating sort of a pottery look.
It turned out really well, which was a relief since I was making up the process as I went along. The only problem is that I am certain that is not the lampshade this lamp originally went with. The previous owners must have broken it or used it elsewhere, because this lampshade leaves about 2 or 3 inches of bare bulb showing at the bottom.
I really like drum lampshades, so I've been shopping for them on-line. It turns out, lampshades are expensive! Especially one as big as the size I'll need. That lamp is quite large, to put it in perspective ... that's a full size chair it's sitting next to. I can't really find any cute ones for less than 60 dollars, and it seems crazy to spend that much on a lampshade with no lamp attached. I looked for directions on how to make your own lampshade, but all I could find was directions for recovering one. Anthropologie has gorgeous lampshades, and I do have that fabulous gift card from my parents .... hmmmm.....
I love these shades with the birds on them, but even these big guys would be about 2 inches too short, I'm afraid.
If you find anything good, or know of a good source for cheap lampshades, feel free to point me in the right direction!

That ruffly one down below is so cute, but again ... too short. I actually took a picture of it a few months ago when I first spotted it in the store because I was thinking "if I take a picture of it, I can probably figure out how to make my own".
I still think I can (I'm usually unreasonably confident in my abilities), but the problem is finding a big enough shade to cover that is inexpensive. I'm not going to buy a 60 dollar shade and cover it in hot glue and thread!
