coffee table confusion

Before I debut this new piece of furniture, I should admit that I'm not 100% sold on it yet. Something just feels off. I don't know what it is. I'm really not a big fan of artificially distressed furniture (though I love it when furniture chips and fades on it's own), so maybe that's it. I distressed this one because it was so massive that I felt like all that white needed to be broken up. We don't need two coffee tables, so obviously either we'll sell this one or the old one. Fortunately we haven't sold either yet, so I still have time to decide.

Without further blabbing, here's the before:

and the after:

I know one thing for sure, I love the hardware:

it's so cute!

Anyone want to make a suggestion on where I might have gone wrong? Should I sell this one and keep the old wooden one from Target? Should I paint it a different color? Or do you like it?

I have lots of questions today;)

PS that huge white mirror you see on the wall there is this mirror, painted white.

  1. Everything you do, is a copy of something on another blog. It makes you look stupid. You copy stuff from Life in the fun lane and Young house love. I think you need to stop making a copycat blog and you need to think of something all by yourself and do it. Then post it. Your blog is getting old!

  2. What's the saying..."There is nothing new under the sun." Basically we ALL glean ideas from others, put our own spin on them, and make them our own. ( Life in the Fun Lane and Young House Love do this, too). It is a good thing to be in on current trends. I don't have a problem with several blogs representing the same trends sometimes. It just gives me more ideas to choose from. Don't change a thing, Mrs. Whitewaxflower. I love your blog and it's freshness, I and look forward to reading it every day.
P.S. I like what you did to the coffee table. I wouldn't change it. Just my two cents worth.

  3. But every post of hers is of something that i've already seen in those blogs. She just copies what they do and blogs about it. I want her to show me something that she has done all by herself. Be original! Come on MaryGrace!

  4. Dear Anon #1,

If you have that big of an issue with this blog then maybe you just shouldn't read it. Did you ever think maybe the author isn't blogging just for you, but more for herself and others that support her and her decorating endeavours? I think the author does a fabulous job of creating NEW and fresh ideas for decorating that are both trendy and inexpensive. And maybe you should be more positive, like offering suggestions of something new that you thought of, instead of giving unconstructive comments that are just nothing but rude.

And I love the coffee table Ms. Waxflower, you should definitely keep it!

Don't read the blog if you *feel* her ideas are not as original as you *feel* those ideas should be. If you don't like it, create your own blog and blog about it there. Seriously.....

MG: I actually love the coffee table. I would suggest not making a decision about it right away and seeing if it grows on you any. You may decide you like it after a week or so.

    And I LOVE your blog!!!

  6. Anon #3 here...LOVE the blog. Keep up the great work!

I prefer the old coffee table (the smaller brown one) just because it isn't at massive. I still think you did a good job on the white one though.

  7. Dearest Anon #1,

I did suggest something to her. I told her to try doing something all by herself. So yes, I did suggest that to her. But maybe you didn't read that part. Would you like me to run out and get you a pair of glasses?

  9. I ADORE that coffee table! It looks fantastic, I wouldn't change a thing about it! You're right, the hardware is beautiful. If you want to sell that one, let me know - though the shipping would probably be pretty steep! :)

  10. I think you did a fantastic job. When I first saw the original picture I couldn't wait to scroll down to see the results. I mean how does one turn an ugly outdated 70's monster into a chic piece? But you did. It gives me hope:) I enjoy reading your blog very much. I'm sure you don't need me to tell you this but don't listen to the negativity. It's really ridiculous!
