A few months ago I made this. I never blogged about it, because it didn't turn out at all as I'd imagined. The color scheme came out much more juvenile than I'd hoped, but I do still love the message:)
I re-painted the frame, laid down some burlap-type fabric, and attached some of those sweet little crocheted daisies that my great-great-grandmother made years and years ago.
I experimented with a few different designs, before settling on the randomly-placed one. Now that it's all done, I sort of wish I'd gone with the design on the left up there, where they start out clumped together and then trickle down. Fortunately, I only glued them very, very lightly, so I can always peel them off and start over.
Here's the finished product at home in the downstairs half-bath, where Jemima can admire it as she eats breakfast, lunch and dinner:) I'll probably go back and re-do the design, so check back to see the new, new art later on!
UPDATE: Okay, so I already changed it. Haha! Here's the finished product, for real this time.
detail shot!
Have a great weekend, everybody!
That's awesome that you found a way to display the little daises! I love the idea, but must agree that I find the clumped, then spreading out look more visually appealing. At least to my eye.
ReplyDeleteI'm very jealous that you have such great goodies that are not only vintage, but family heirlooms!
i agree with you on the design. i kinda like the one on the left better. the colors are perfect for your place.

The trickle is perfect --it's raining daisies (to tune "It's Raining Men"), but let the poor dog eat in the kitchen. Poor little pooch!
ReplyDeleteyes, i like the cascading design better too! if you have extras they would make a cute flower brooch pin thingy too, maybe with a little button sewed in the midddle?

I was looking at the one on the left and was thinking to myself "I really like that one". I'm so glad you changed it! What a great way to display something so meaningful.
ReplyDeleteI agree with previous commenters, I enjoy the cascading design, and I like that they are grouped together at the bottom and "cascade" upwards. What a neat find from your great-great-grandmother!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea, love the daisies!
ReplyDeleteYou are awesome, MG!
ReplyDeleteThanks sooooooo much, everyone for the positive feedback! I'm glad to know I made the right decision. I don't really know why I went with the random pattern at first, the "falling" pattern looks way better for sure.
